Upper Mustang Trek

The Upper Mustang Trek known as “Last Forbidden Kingdom” that offers an extraordinary fusion of breathtaking desert- like atmosphere, with historic significance, and old Tibetan culture. This trek is located in the humid shadows of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks, the route pass through windswept valleys, rough directions and brilliant rock formation. The journey began Jomsom and travels through charming towns with whitewashed residences like Kagbeni, and Charang.

The major highlight of this trek is Lo Manthang, the wall capital of the former Kingdom of Mustang, where trekkers can visit the centuries-old monasteries, royal palaces and caves with the artwork of Buddhist.  This trek is unique and unparalleled Himalayan experience that offers panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, and other peaks as well as the opportunity to submerge one in the preservation of culture influenced by Tibetan.



Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, your guide will assist with the visa and transfer you to your hotel in Thamel. On the way, catch glimpses of Pashupatinath Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to Lord Shiva. After checking in, you can relax or explore the bustling streets of Thamel, famous for its vibrant markets, cozy cafés, and rich cultural atmosphere.

Day 2: Fly to Pokhara and Jomsom, Trek to Kagbeni
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a short 30-minute flight to Jomsom. Take in breathtaking views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Machhapuchhre peaks, along with serene lakes and valleys. From Jomsom, trek along the Kali Gandaki River to Kagbeni, a historic village with Tibetan-influenced culture and monasteries, enjoying the stunning gorge landscapes along the way.

Day 3: Trek to Chele (3,100m / 10,168ft)
Begin your trek from Kagbeni to Chele, a 6–7 hour journey through the Mustang region’s unique landscapes. Walk along the riverbanks and past high desert plateaus, with opportunities to explore Tibetan-influenced villages and local monasteries. Upon arrival in Chele, unwind and acclimate to the higher altitude while taking in the majestic Himalayan views.

Day 4: Trek to Syangmoche (3,475m)
Continue trekking to Syangmoche in 6–7 hours. The trail offers spectacular views of peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Nupste, and Ama Dablam, and passes through ancient chortens, painted Mani walls, and traditional villages. Witness the region’s rich spiritual heritage and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals.

Day 5: Trek to Ghami (3,460m / 11,348ft)
Trek from Syangmoche to Ghami, a 5-hour journey featuring panoramic vistas of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna ranges. Cross high passes like Yamda La and Nyi La, and experience the ancient monasteries, mud-brick houses, and peaceful village life that define Mustang’s cultural landscape.

Day 6: Trek to Charang (3,560m)
From Ghami, enjoy a shorter 4-hour trek to Charang, passing the region’s longest Mani wall etched with Buddhist chants. Explore the traditional mud-brick houses, the imposing red monastery of Thubten Shedrup Dhargyeling, and the remnants of the old royal palace, soaking in the spiritual and cultural richness of Mustang.

Day 7: Trek to Lo Manthang
One of the most spectacular treks of the journey takes you from Charang to Lo Manthang, Mustang’s walled city, in about 5 hours. Cross the Lo La Pass (3,950m) and enjoy panoramic views of the city and snow-capped peaks. Explore the royal palace, monasteries, and traditional whitewashed homes, immersing yourself in Tibetan-influenced culture and history.

Day 8: Day Trip to Chhoser Caves
Embark on a 6-hour round trip to Chhoser Caves, ancient sky caverns carved into cliffs and once inhabited by monks and local families. The trek passes ochre canyons, abandoned villages, and small monasteries, offering insight into Mustang’s fascinating history and survival traditions.

Day 9: Trek to Dhakmar
Trek from Lo Manthang to Dhakmar, a 7-hour journey across high desert plateaus and red cliffs. Visit cliffside monasteries, ancient cave shrines, and traditional villages while enjoying panoramic views of Mustang’s rugged terrain and the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Day 10: Trek to Ghiling
From Dhakmar, trek 6 hours to Ghiling, navigating wind-sculpted landscapes, scattered chortens, and barley fields. Take in the serene village setting and the spectacular mountain views, reflecting on the journey through Mustang’s remote and breathtaking landscapes.

Day 11: Trek to Chuksang
Continue trekking to Chuksang, passing traditional villages such as Samar and Chele. The trail offers views of the Nilgiri and Tilicho peaks, colorful prayer walls, and Mustang’s striking red cliffs. Reach Chuksang, a peaceful village along the Kali Gandaki River, marking the transition back to lower altitudes.

Day 12: Trek to Jomsom
The trek from Chuksang to Jomsom takes about 7 hours. Descend along the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing Tangbe and Kagbeni, and reconnect with the familiar landscapes of the upper valley. Jomsom welcomes trekkers with majestic views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri, celebrating the completion of this epic Himalayan adventure.

Day 13: Flight to Pokhara
Take a 20–25 minute flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, enjoying aerial views of the Kali Gandaki Gorge and surrounding Himalayan peaks. Spend the day relaxing by Phewa Lake, exploring the lakeside cafes, or strolling through the quaint streets of Pokhara.

Day 14: Flight to Kathmandu
Fly back to Kathmandu in the morning, with one last opportunity to enjoy breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Check into your Thamel hotel and spend the day shopping, exploring, or relaxing while reflecting on your unforgettable Upper Mustang journey.

Day 15: Departure
Bid farewell to Nepal as you are transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport. Carry memories of snow-capped peaks, historic monasteries, and warm local hospitality, concluding your extraordinary Himalayan adventure.
